Under The Skin (2014)

Under the Skin, director Jonathan Glazer in 2014 featuring Scarlett Johansson a science fiction film. Representation of women is the films main focus, in this film director Glazer attempts to reverse gender roles however, at the end reminding us as the audience that it is till a very much male patriarchy. Johansson plays a alien who takes advantage of men's own desires from viewing her as nothing but a sexual object. Under the Skin, shot in Edinburgh, director does not inform any extras of the film of filming behind, this allows the film to capture truthfully how men view women and how their perception can impact women. Casting Scarlett Johansson made it difficult for many, including myself to not picture her as Marvel's Black Widow, a male fantasy for many. However in contrast to Under the Skin, Johansson couldn't be viewed any more different.

Driving around in Glasgow, in a white van challenges the "white man van" reversing the gender. Johansson, familiar with being objectified, with her google auto search-completions being "hot" "pregnant" and "selfie" all predictions that have nothing to do with Scarlett as a person or actor (nothing under the skin) not wanting to be defined by her physical appearance may have prompted Scarlett to play this role.
