Throughout his module we will study films that seek to challenge or subvert the expectations and conventions of mainstream cinema. Since its inception at the start of the twentieth century Hollywood film studios hve developed a specific mode of filmmaking that has been exported around the world. In doing so they have exported a 'proper' way of making films ; linear narrative system, adherence to generic conventions, modes of production, distribution and execution.

Towards the end of the twentieth century Post-Modern films emerged that attempted to challenge the structures and practices of the modern film industry.
