Screenwriting

If you chose the 'screenplay' option for your coursework you are required to produce one screenplay that conforms to one of the four briefs provided by the exam board 

It should also be noted that if you choose the screenplay option you will be required to create an accompanying set of 'Digital Storyboards' 

Briefs

1 - A narrative twist

2 - A narrative which begins with an enigma

3 - A narrative which establishes and develops a single character

4 - A narrative which portrays a conflict between two central characters 

Pre-Production

Before you begin planning your short film you must create an unassessed portfolio of work containing evidence of your planning. 

 

Your research can take several forms should include some of the following methods:

 

  • Pintrest board

  • 'Aesthetic' analysis of one film

  • 'Aesthetics' board

  • Genre study - several blog posts researching a range of genres and styles

  • Narrative research - blog posts researching various narrative forms and systems

  • Detailed analysis of AT LEAST THREE short films running over 80 minutes in length

Screenplays

Central to the preparation of your short film is the study of existing screenplays. You must study a selection and make explicit mention of them in your Evaluative Analysis.
