Swimmer a short film by Lynn Ramsey 2012 follows a man swim across a scenic bank of water with non diegetic relaxing music in the background. The audience is led to believe that Swimmer is about the start of life to the end.
Swimmer then changes from the peaceful music to tense drum music and an wide shot of the sea, as the camera tracks forward we hear the tense drum music get faster and more upbeat. After this we see a pan shot of the area and this establishes the natural scenery, this adds to the life cycle theme feel. We also get a lot of POV shots from the swimmer establishing that the film is about his cycle of life. Throughout the opening it is perfection and very peaceful however this is disturbed by people attacking the swimmer, this represents the obstacles that life throws at you in your lifetime, the fact that this swimmer is alone could resemble that he is lonely. After the attack we see an carnival which resembles innocence and childhood but the significance of being shown the carnival after the swimmer was attacked shows that he has suffered a loss of innocence due to the paths he has taken in life which has caused him to be attacked.
