Pitch Black Heist - Analysis

Characters - two thieves - called Michael and Liam - have been hired to crack a safe with a unique security system: the alarm goes off at the slightest exposure to light. We later find out that Michael is Liam's son and he eventually makes Liam take the blame for the heist and go to prison for a long time.

Throughout the film the dialogue is very important to finding that Liam is Michaels dad as he drops little hints about his mystery past, Michael does the same and this creates tension between both characters and for the audience it creates suspense. The music at the start of the film is used to create suspense and at the end it is lifted as Michael flees, in the film we see a shot reverse shot while Liam and Michael are talking about Michaels lack of father figure, the shot reverse shot is significant here as it creates the tension between the two characters as it switches between the two, it almost suggests that Liam needs to tell Michael this secret.

They are almost always shot in the same shot, showing the audience they have a clear bond and of course we find out later that they are related.

The films theme is crime and mystery.
