Quentin Tarantino uses the 70s look and feel as the main theme for some of his most popular films such as pulp fiction, death proof and jackie brown. when researching these films and reading certain essays and reviews of the films the word "cool" is used a lot which is surprising because it is a generic word that doesn't have much meaning but it fits these films perfectly for many reasons. the main reason the word "cool" fits this 70s theme is due to the 70s characters as they all dress in suits or wear a very distinct attire they also act very charismatic and tell story's which don't add to the story but add interesting moments of dialogue for some characters especially Samuel L. Jacksons character Jules who talks about random things such as burgers which adds nothing to there story as Hitmen but adds to the character as being an interesting and very charismatic guy who can keep the audience interested and entertained with his random facts and story's.
Another use of the "70s cool aesthetic is the outfits the characters wear such as the black suits in pulp fiction and the silver jacket in Death proof. Tarantino uses style and his outfits in his own way he bases the costumes of his characters on intimidation factors and try's to make them cool enough that the people watching his movies want to dress up like the characters and take inspiration from their attire.
the music they use in these films are very 60s turf music which was quite popular in the 70s the sound track fits very well with the pace of the film and the laid back attitudes of the characters.
so the clothes mixed with attitudes and actions of the characters and the 60s turf music in the background creates a great base for the film before the narrative/story even picks up the interest of the audience is already grabbed by he interesting aspects of the characters in the films.
