Asif Kapadia (born 1972) is a British filmmaker of Indian descent. He has directed several award-winning film, including The Sheep Thief (1997), The Warrior (2001) 

​

Kapadia began his film career making fictional-narrative film, The Warrior (2001) before going on to direct two award winning documentaries Senna (2010) and Amy (2015). 

​

His documentaries are known for being visually striking films which explore the lives of 'outsiders'. 

​

Influences from narrative-cinema are clearly visible in his documentaries and contribute to his approach to documentary; what he terms 'True-fiction'; structuring actuality footage to form a narrative in order to tell a story.
